RONO HILLS, Apr 15: Acting on the request made by the UGC constituted Committee on Examinations (2019-2020) and Academic Calendar (2020-21) seeking suggestions for post-lockdown academic measures, an emergency meeting involving all deans and officers of Rajiv Gandhi University was held on Wednesday here at the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat.
The meeting was chaired by VC Professor Saket Kushwaha and it was recommended that teaching and examinations be allowed to be conducted by the university and the existing autonomy enjoyed by the Universities be continued in respect of completion of courses, conduct & evaluation of examinations and publication of results. Keeping in view the infrastructure bottlenecks, web connectivity issues etc, RGU has suggested for a having a separate set of policy decisions for the universities located in the Northeast. It was felt that due to poor 4G connectivity, university fraternity and most students are finding it difficult to use the MHRD teaching-learning platform although RGU faculties are using other e-Resources like Google Classroom, WhatsApp, email etc. to communicate with students.
Other internal avenues for online teaching and examination are being explored, but RGU fraternity is apprehensive of copyright violations and plagiarism and Union MHRD may look into the issue and provide directives in this regard for full autonomy to the concerned universities for completion of courses and conduct of examinations with best-available methods, the meeting felt. The RGU fraternity also opined for having a set of definite guidelines for opening of the universities after lockdown so as to ensure a common mechanism for handling inflow of returning students, staff, faculty members, hostel boarders etc.
On providing quarantine facilities for students/staff coming back from the Covid-19 hotspot zones, RGU suggested for having a central regulatory framework in this regard. Suggestions were also made for making good the period lost due to disruption in academic activities through adjustment of summer vacation, adoption of 6-day/week working schedule for the next semester, commencement of the odd semester from September onwards etc. The meeting also gave inputs on conduct of semester examinations while maintaining social and physical distancing norms in tune with the government directives.
Study tours, field visits, industry visits, excursions & extra-curricular activities may be allowed to be conducted in June and December and in case of new exigencies, syllabus-oriented exercises may be carried out during summer vacation or winter breaks, RGU suggested. RGU PR
