BALIJAN, Mar 16: Along with the rest of the country, the fortnight long Poshan Pakhwada 2021 was launched today across the state which will continue till March 31.
Department of Women & Child Development launched the flagship national nutrition awareness campaign here at the Conference Hall of the Inspection Bunglow. A plantation drive of fruit-bearing trees at the Lower Tubing Anganwadi Centre by the dignitaries marked the beginning, followed by administration of Poshan pledge by the ICDS Project Balijan team. 
Director, WCD TP Loyi stressed on the importance of Poshan Pakhwada as a key component of Poshan Abhiyaan which provides a participative model for spreading awareness at grassroots level through focus on food forestry and Poshan Vatika (Nutri-garden). While motivating the Anganwadi workers to attain the objectives of Poshan Pakhwada 2021, she appealed the elected panchayat representatives to play the role of enablers. Later, she launched a radio jingle on Poshan Pakhwada 2021. The panchayat representatives of Papum Pare appealed all stakeholders to take up food forestry as a solution for reducing malnutrition. EAC Balijan Marchina Boria, State Nodal Officer, Poshan Abhiyaan Dorjee K Thungon, various CDPOs, ICDS field functionaries, Anganwadi worker/helpers and common people attended the launch ceremony. 
This year’s Poshan Pakhwada will focus on addressing the nutritional challenges through food forestry and Poshan Panchayat. Under food forestry, distribution of samples of nutrition-rich plants by National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB), MoAYUSH to the Anganwadi centres of aspirational districts under supervision of local panchayats and DCs along with village level awareness programmes will be held.
IEC materials comprising Poshan stickers will also be used across the state during the celebration.
