DOIMUKH, Jun 23:

Following media reports, Parliamentary Secretary (Home & Education) Pani Taram today visited the Doimukh Police Station which was recently flooded by rain waters, to take stock of the situation.

Accompanied by Superintendent of Police Tumme Amo, the Parliamentary Secretary also discussed all related issues with police officials.

Taram said that the government has already taken a decision and approved for construction of a first class RCC Police Station and rupees two crore has been kept aside. ‘We were supposed to start the tender works but due to shifting of construction agency from Police Housing to RWD it got delayed,’ he said.

Acknowledging that infrastructure in many police stations is old, the Parl Secy said that government has approved for construction of RCC Police Stations and the process would be done shortly.

When asked about city surveillance system, Taram said that surveillance system is a very important part in maintaining law and order and the capital city will be covered and a proposal of Rs 36 Crore has been sent to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) government of India  and as and when approved the scheme will be implemented.

On non-functioning of Kakoi and Mengio Police Stations, Taram blamed it on acute shortage of manpower to man newly created police stations.

‘A shortage of more than 4200 police personnel has been reported so far. To ease the problem, advertisement is being done in phase manner and more than 2900 police personnel right from constable to Dy SP if recruited will alleviate the problem,’ he said.

He also assured to take up the matter of posting of police personnel at Kakoi bordering Assam and functioning of the PS at the earliest.
