ITANAGAR, Dec 3: The Capital Police on Tuesday solved the Hanuman Mandir burglary case within 2 days of the crime with the arrest of the main accused, 21-year old Man Bahadur Pradhan alias Kuku Chetry and recovery of the stolen cash amounting Rs 37000 from his possession.
The matter came to light after an FIR was registered on November 30 by one Avinash Kumar Dubey of Shree Hanuman Seva Samiti Ganga Market Itanagar that at around 1 am on November 29 thieves have broken the lock of the main gate of Hanuman Mandir and fled away with Rs 1.5 lakh.
Accordingly, a team was constituted and case vide ITA PS case no.317/19 u/s 457/380 IPC was registered. The team started screening all suspected criminals having previous records of similar offenses and also conducted raids at various suspected places with the help of local sources.
Acting on inputs, finally on the night of December 1 the team arrested Chetry from Nyokum Lapang Itanagar and recovered the stolen cash amounting to Rs 37000 from his possession. Police said that further investigation is still on to recover the missing amount as the accused person during interrogation revealed that he had spent about Rs 10,000 and the remaining amount which he kept in a labour barrack was stolen by an unknown person in his absence.
