AALO, Nov 24: Aalo Police led by OC PS Aalo Insp. Y Riram conducted surprise raids against suspected sellers of tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions which is prohibited under Sec 6 of Control of Tobacco & Other Products Act (COTPA).
Action was taken around three schools in the West Siang district headquarters-- Government Higher Secondary School, Govt. Nehru Memorial School, Puak Gumin and Government Secondary School, New Market.
The police team confiscated large numbers of tobacco products including cigarettes, bidis, gutkha, etc from 11 shops.
"District Police will continue to take action against drugs and such violations of Tobacco regulations in future also. Along with punitive action, awareness will also be imparted," informed Superintendent of Police, Raja Banthia.
