NAHARLAGUN, Jun 17: Naharlagun Police solved the brutal murder case within few hours of the incident and arrested the accused with a weapon that has been used to execute the crime.
Police arrested Koj Sambiyo (35), accused for the brutal murder of one Debraj Singh alias Salamuddin (50), working at Spectrum Coaching Institute, near here on Tuesday.
SDPO Naharlagun Dekio Gumja  informed that the victim Debraj Singh alias Salamudidin, an original resident of Odisha later changed his religion and name after marrying a Muslim woman and had shifted to Laluk, Assam.
The deceased body has been handed over to family members after post-mortem. A case vide NLG PS case No-97/21 u/s 302 IPC has been registered.
SDPO further informed that, there is no any communal hatred which led to the murder as both were close friends and on the intervening nigh both were under the influence of alcohol.
Gumja said that during the investigation it was found that the accused had called the deceased for drinks which later ended in murder. Both were neighbours and no one nearby heard any noise of heated argument.
“It seems like there might be a romantic angle involved in the murder which is being found out so far,” he said, adding that the murder weapon has been recovered by the police, which is a local Dao (Machete).
He said that the police received the information of murder nearby Barapani near here on Tuesday at around 11.45 pm. Accordingly a team led by SI SS Jha, OC K Yangfo under the supervision of SP Jimmy Chiram rushed to the place of occurrence.
“Upon entering the room, we found the deceased body in his late 50s half naked, intestines out on the floor lying in a pool of blood and water,” he said.
Subsequently, the accused Koj Sambiyo, who was hiding in the jungle and was about to flee, was arrested.  
He said there were two cut marks, one on the neck which probably was the reason of death and the other on the stomach. The intestines lying on the floor were tied up with a thread.
“It seemed that after killing the person the accused wanted to dispose of the body by chopping it into pieces but in the mid-way was overwhelmed and had left the thought,” he added.
The accused is from Dutta Village, Ziro of Lower Subansiri district and is presently in Police Custody. Statements from all the witnesses were recorded and the entire formalities regarding the investigation completed.
