ITANAGAR, Jul 26:The capital police on Wednesday finally nabbed absconding joint commissioner of Tax & Excise, Tani Jongkey, the prime accused in the recent alleged molestation case involving a minor girl.
Jongkey was booked by the police on a complaint filed by the victim family on July 5 last under Sections of POCSO Act.
Since the FIR, Jongkey had been evading the police net and reportedly filed bail plea twice at Session Court Yupia and one at High Court, Guwahati, which was later transferred to Naharlagun bench of Guwahati High Court for disposal.
However considering the seriousness of the nature of the crime, the court had quashed Jongkey’s bail plea.
After a weeklong hide and seek with the law, Jongkey in a dramatic manner on Wednesday afternoon got himself admitted at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Science, Naharlagun, citing health related issues, when he was arrested by the capital police.
When contacted, Superintendent of Police, A Koan confirmed the arrest. Moreover, he informed that he is going to file a request to the court for constitution of a medical team to examine whether the accused is really ill or is putting up an act to evade judicial custody.
He disclosed that the accused will be tested by designated medical officers and then after conducting the test, prosecution will be made against the accused.
Meanwhile Jongkey has refuted all the charges against him and clarified that his stay in the hospital is not in any way to evade arrest. In his clarification, Jonkgey said he got himself admitted because of few health related issues.
