ITANAGAR, Oct 27: Union Minister for Education Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed Mechanical Engineering, Bio-Technology and Chemical Engineering Blocks and the Central Instrumentation Facility and Reaction Engineering Laboratory of NIT Arunachal Pradesh through virtual mode.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Union Minister of State (I/c) for Youth Affairs & Sports and Minister of State for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Education Er. Taba Tedir and ADG (HE), Union Ministry of Education Madan Mohan also joined the inaugural ceremony through videoconferencing. The Union Education Minister while congratulating the NIT for achieving 200th rank in NIRF 2020 in Engineering Category and Band A (rank between 11th-25th) in ARIIA Rankings 2020 among the category of Institute of National Importance, Central Universities & CFTIs and Four Star ranking for the 2018-19 session by the Ministry of Education Innovation Cell (MIC), expressed happiness over granting of 12 patents to the institute and publication of sufficient number of research papers. He also advised the institute’s fraternity to work for overall development of the 5 villages adopted by it under UBA with assistance from the state government.
Praising the collaboration made by the institute with Gifu University of Japan, the Minister expressed satisfaction over the MoUs executed by it with various external organisations namely NPTI Guwahati, IIT Guwahati, Assam Science & Technology University (ASTU), NHAI, MSME for collaboration in academics and research, students and faculty exchange, internship etc. Stating that the Start-up Cell and Innovation Centre of the NIT is working to develop entrepreneurial skills among students through hands-on/do-it-yourself activities, Pokhriyal also appreciated the mega Start-up project granted recently by NECTAR, DST for a 5-year period at a total project cost of Rs 14 crores for development of entrepreneurial skills of the region’s youths in toy-making, value added products such as kiwi, ginger and cardamom, poultry rearing, pickle making, renewable energy etc. through harnessing of locally available resources.
Measures taken by the NIT during the pandemic such as online classes and examinations, development of hand washing gel and low-cost automatic hand sanitizer, online yoga and FDP programmes etc. also received appreciation from the Union Minister. He also praised the steps taken by the EBSB in developing a multilingual dictionary in the traditional dialects of Arunachal Pradesh i.e. Apatani, Wancho, Mossang, Galo, Tangsa and Nyshi.
The Chief Minister said that inauguration of the academic blocks and lab facilities is a proud moment for the NIT in particular and the state in general and conveyed gratitude to the Union Education Minister for his constant support in the institute’s development. While congratulating the NIT Director for the rankings, achievements and execution of MoUs, Khandu expressed hope that the construction of the permanent campus at Jote would be completed within deadline and assured constant support from the state government for its future development.
Rijiju thanked the Central government for sanctioning the revised package to the NIT without which the permanent campus would not have been possible. Expressing gratitude to the Union Minister for his support in development of education in the state, Tedir expressed satisfaction over the rapid development made by the NIT during the last two years.
The NIT’s Director Professor Pinekeswar Mahanta besides detailing on the new facilities, informed about the external projects and outreach activities undertaken by the institute for socio-cultural development of the state. NIT PR
