ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Festival for good harvest of the Adi community was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety among all the people of the state irrespective of tribe and community at Mopin-Solung Ground on Thursday. The celebration was organized by Podi- Barbi Celebration Committee Itanagar-2019. Hundreds of people comprising young and old wearing traditional attire participated in the festival.
Attending the celebration as the Chief Guest, Minister for Sports, Mama Natung, lauded the community for its rich culture and tradition. ‘One cannot find the zest of our rich culture and tradition on Google or any other sources but it has to be inherited from our ancestors.’
He also appreciated the Adi people as among the few that greet and speak in their own language which helps preserve their language. Stating that every tribal community must preserve language for the next generation, he said, State government will soon carry out a research programme through art and culture department, so that the rich tradition and culture can be maintained.
“To promote and to preserve indigenous culture, the state government has already taken a decision to introduce local dialects as subject in every government school of the state,” said the Minister.  
Extending festival greeting, Guest of Honour, National executive member Kishan morcha, Taro Pussang also stressed on the preservation of culture and tradition. He also appealed the youths of the community to uphold their traditions, while moving simultaneously with modernity.
While elaborating on the mythology of Podi Barbi festival, organizing president of Podi Barbi festival 2019, Tasap Kochung also urged the gathering to maintain the sanctity of every festival and appealed the community leaders to be torch bearers for others.
Mainly celebrated by the Adis of Mechuka, Monigong and Tato in newly created Shi Yomi district, the Podi-Barbi is an occasion to extend gratitude to deities and Mother Nature for prosperous and surplus production of crops.
The festival witnessed rich cultural folk dances of Pai Libo, Ramo and Bokar tribes of Adi community of the state.
