KIMIN, Mar 11: A joint team of Assam Police and forest officials of North Lakhimpur has reportedly stopped the ongoing construction of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) from Lake Village in Dominuk Circle to Buka-2 in Kumka Circle. Earlier, the Assam Police and their forest officials had disrupted the construction of the PMGSY road at Taraso Circle in Papum Pare district. The crucial PMGSY construction measuring 18.60 km connecting Lekhi village of Doimukh Circle and Buka-II village in Kimin Circle was stopped near Bogoli-Denka in Doimukh Circle recently, informed the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) President Byabang Joram. Joram who was accompanied by executive members of ANYA toured the two Circles to get first-hand information of the matter and interacted with the locals on Wednesday. Conveying their full support, the team assured to take the matter with the state government so that construction could be completed within schedule.
Kimin Additional Deputy Commissioner Likha Tejji, officials of RWD department and executing agency officials also accompanied the ANYA team. Joram said this is not the first case when Assam forest officials have created hurdles in developmental works in the name of border dispute and occupied reserved forest areas. “People living in inter-state border areas are facing untold sufferings due to absence of good road connectivity and frequent interruptions in road construction by the Assam side is delaying the projects,” he said. “Our people have been living there before the country’s independence and how can they be considered as encroachers of reserved forests. We have never created any disturbances and are making efforts to strengthen our relations with the people of Assam and it should be understood by the Assam government that the road will benefit both the state’s people,” Joram remarked. He further urged the Assam government to maintain the status quo until the Supreme Court gives its final verdict on the long-pending issue.
