PASIGHAT, Mar 10: Installation of Electric-cum-Gas fired crematorium at Burial-cum-Cremation Ground (Samsanghat) was finalized and a contract was signed between Municipal Executive Officer(MEO) A. Koyu and A.K Gahlot, Chief Engineer(Civil Design), WAPCOS, Ltd (A Govt. of India Undertaking), Gurgaon on Thursday in the presence of Chief Councillor Kaling Doruk, Dy. Chief Councillor Kaling Darang and Consultant(WAPCOS)Gaurav Sinha at PMC Office.

A joint field visit was also conducted on the day to finalize 300 sq. mtr area at Samsanghat for installing the crematorium. During his visit, Chief Engineer Gahlot informed that the project would take maximum of five months to be functional.

MEO Koyu said that the electric crematorium would reduce pollution and take away the burden of poor people who have to shell out money for wood for pyre cremation. People residing close to traditional crematoriums were more vulnerable to health hazards due to pyre cremations and after installing of modern crematoria, gases released from burning corpse could be controlled easily besides protecting the environment from pollution, expressed hope MEO Koyu.

Chief Councillor Doruk opined that installation of electric crematorium was the lone solution for multiple problems related to cremations. While extending his gratitude to the government for sanctioning necessary funds for the crematorium, he asserted that combined efforts of the elected representatives and officials of PMC has finally yielded dividends.
