TAWANG, Dec 26: With the objective of reviving the traditional art of Monpa handmade paper making, a unit in this regard was inaugurated at Tsangboo village on Friday by Chairman, Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) VK Saxena in presence of its CEO Preeta Verma, Chairman, AP KVIB Dominic Tadar, DC Tawang Sang Phuntsok and others.
AP KVIB Chairman appreciated Saxena for visiting Arunachal Pradesh and taking interest in revival of the art of paper making carried over through generations by the Monpas. “Arunachal Pradesh with so much potential can become number one in the entire nation if properly tapped. We have already started a silk unit in the state but due to lockdown nothing much could be done. KVIC will shortly appoint locals to train youths in wood carving and pottery making and will soon set up agarbatti making units in the state which will generate employment,” Saxena said while thanking the state government for proactively supporting the KVIC in implementing projects in the state. The KVIC CEO divulged that plans are in the offing for revival of traditional industries in other parts of the state too along with providing market access to the craftsmen.
Certificates were distributed to the trainees by the KVIC Chairman. President, Youth Action for Social Welfare (YASW) Maling Gombu and DC also spoke on the occasion. DIPRO
