GUWAHATI, Jun 8: Press Information Bureau, Guwahati on Monday organised a webinar for journalists from across the Northeast region wherein experts from agricultural universities threw light on the recent cabinet decisions on agricultural reforms.
Addressing the opening session, Head of North East Zone, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, GoI L.R Vishwanath said that the recent decisions for ushering in agricultural reforms have the potential of doubling the income of farmers in NE and media can play a key role in disseminating the vital information regarding various government schemes to the people during the current crisis due to Covid-19 pandemic. The webinar was organised with the aim of setting the narratives of the reforms through resource persons associated with the field of agriculture to the journalists so that it could have a mass circulation.
Director, Agriculture Technology Application Research Institute, ICAR, Umiam Dr. B.C Deka spoke on the prospect of agriculture in the Northeast after the Covid scenario. Professor Dr. Nivedita Deka, Department of Agricultural Economics & Farm Management, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat talked about the agricultural scenario of Assam in the context of the pandemic and highlighted the approaching challenges and emerging alternatives. Director of Instruction, Central Agricultural University Dr. S. Basanta Singh discussed the agricultural marketing reforms in the country.
Joint Director, PIB Guwahati Keerti Tiwari and Smita Saikia of the bureau’s Media and Communication wing spoke on the occasion. Around 26 journalists participated in the workshop through a video conference. PIB Guwahati
