KHARSANG, Sep 10: At least sixteen people were fined Rs 200 each by the Kharsang Police in Changlang district for violating the Covid-19 SOP of not wearing facemask in public places on Thursday.
The Changlang District Administration has already issued an order announcing fines for those not wearing masks, spitting in public places and violating other SOPs in containing the spread of coronavirus. As per the order issued on September 9 by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Miao, wearing of mask has been made compulsory in public places and a penalty of Rs 500 has been fixed for its violation. However, there is an exemption for children below five years age. The order further reads that a penalty of Rs 200 will be imposed for spitting in public places. “Today being the first day after issuance of the new SOP order, we took a reduced fine of Rs 200 for not wearing masks along with a warning,” a security official on duty informed.
A similar order was also issued by the ICR District Administration on September 8 appealing the denizens to abide by the ‘new normal’ of wearing masks compulsorily in public places. As per the order, Rs 500 will be charged as penalty for not wearing a mask and Rs 200 for spitting in public places. The on-ground officers were directed to impose the fine from September 14 earlier.
