ITANAGAR, Jul 22: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) today staged a protest here in front of the Raj Bhawan over the issue of phone tapping through Pegasus spyware, allegedly engineered by the Central government.
The protesters led by APCC General Secretary Zirgi Kadu while seeking an intervention by the Supreme Court sought the constitution of an independent committee under supervision of the Chief Justice of India to monitor a judicial inquiry into the issue. They also demanded an immediate resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Terming the snooping scandal as illegal and unconstitutional, the APCC GS said that both the Constitution and law are being throttled by the Modi-led government. “Democracy is being trampled and the fundamental rights of citizens are being suppressed,” Kadu said, adding that since the names are high-profile ones like Rahul Gandhi, Prashant Kishor, Abhishek Banerjee, Ashok Lavasa and many others, a thorough investigation is needed.
“The protest was held maintaining the order relating to Covid SOPs issued by the state government,” the APCC GS informed.
