ITANAGAR, May 31: The Pneumococal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) for children in the 8-14-week age group under Routine Immunization (RI) which is an important health measure for combating childhood pneumonia and meningitis was launched today in various districts of the state.
In East Siang district the PCV was rolled out by Arunachal East Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao at PHC Mebo in presence of MO In-charge Dr Talom Pertin, senior doctors, PMC Chief Councilor Okiam Moyong Borang, panchayat representatives and BJP party workers. 
Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong also launched the vaccine at Bakin Pertin General Hospital & Training Centre (BPGH & TC). DRCHO Dr T. Gao informed that pneumonia is one of the causes of infant mortality and the vaccine protects the newborn infants against pneumococcal pneumonia and meningitis. PCV will be available in all health centres in the district, the DRCHO added. Deputy Commissioner Dr Kinny Singh called upon the parents to immunize their children against the fatal diseases.
Joint Director, BPGH & TC Dr D. Raina, DMO Dr Kaling Dai, MS, BPGH Dr Y.R. Darrang were among others present on the occasion. 
In Papum Pare district, the vaccination drive was launched at the Health and Wellness Centre, Yupia by District Medical Officer Dr Komling Perme in presence of DSO Dr R. R Ronya, DRCHO Dr Neyang Nitik and staff of the District Programme Management and HWC Yupia. A beneficiary aged 8 weeks was vaccinated during the PCV launch event. 
In Tawang district the PCV was launched at KDS District Hospital in the headquarters by DMO Dr Wangdi Lama in presence of MS Dr N. Namshum and DRCHO/DIO Dr.Rinchin Neema, doctors and health department staff.
At CHC Jang, ZPC Leki Gombu and ADC Jang RD Thungon jointly launched the vaccine followed by a flag-off ceremony of 2 ambulances which will serve the people of 3 Jang Mogto sub-division. One will cover the Mago Thingbu and Lhou Circles while the other will serve the people of Mogto and Bongkhar Circles, informed the ADC.
The PCV was also launched at CHC Lungla by SMO Dr Tsering Penjor and at Mogto Circle Headquarters by Circle Officer Dorjee Wangchu. DIPRO
