Governor attends Himalayan University Convocation

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.) attended the debriefing of the ‘Pay Back to Society Group’ mission on their return from their motivational tour to district schools and colleges, at Raj Bhavan today. The Mission, which was launched by Mishra on November 25 last concluded today. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor complimented the officers, which included 20 officers from the Army, 4 from Navy and 3 from Air Force, all of whom are native of Arunachal Pradesh, for their service and pinned the ‘Team Arunachal’ lapel pin on each of the officers.
Major General Jarken Gamlin, who led the mission, while briefing about the mission informed that 83 schools and 10 colleges in different parts of the State were covered with enthusiastic participation of more than 17,660 students. He said that the officers were divided into eight groups, which conducted motivational talks in Aalo, Kamba, Likabali, Pasighat, Roing, Yingkiong, Tezu, Namsai, Changlang, Khonsa, Longding, Bomdila, Tawang, Ziro, Raga, Daporijo, Hawai, Itanagar and Yupia.
Gamlin informed that there were larger number of girl participants and recalled that there were numerous requests for NCC and Scouts and Guides units in the educational institutions.
Thanking the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for their support to the mission, the Governor said that it is a result of the joint effort by the State Government, the three Chiefs of the Indian Armed Forces and the individual Arunachalee officers. He said that the mission has to be repeated in different doable and practical format. He felt there is possibility of the Deputy Directors of School Education, who are well experienced could act as the nodal officers for such programmes in future.
Advising the officers to be a good soldier, sailor and air warrior and not to get into the Rat Race for rank, he said that social contribution of the officers will always be welcomed by the State Government.
The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister thanked the officers and expressed their gratefulness to the Governor for the initiative, which is his brainchild. They assured budgetary provisions for future such missions.
Earlier today, the Pay Back to Society Group continued with its programme at NERIST, Nirjuli. During the interactive session, officers from the Armed Forces briefed about the various avenues of joining the Armed Forces, highlighting that one gets to serve the nation in various capacities, which provides a sense of contentment to an individual. The team of officers also briefed about the objectives of the mission to the students.
The officers urged the students to utilise the opportunity as the programme has been specially designed for the students to interact directly with the Armed Forces officers of the State.
The officers also shared inspirational stories about their journey and advised the students to be perseverant in their aspirations. Many of them also shared how despite being from humble backgrounds born in small villages in various parts of the State, they overcame all odds to serve the nation.
The team was led by Group Captain Mohonto Panging, Surgeon Commander Marak Pertin, Major Ponung Doming, Major Tero Kayang and Captain Ado Hage.
Among others, the Dean (SA) NERIST Dr. Pradeep Lingfa, Circle Officer Bittu Kri along with a host of faculty members and the students attended the session.
