Nampong, Jan 20: Scenic Nampong, the last town in the country on the India-Myanmar border came alive today with the inauguration of the three-day Pangsau Pass International Festival (PPIF).
The festival was officially opened by Moe Kyaw Aung, the Ambassador of Myanmar who was the chief guest. Aung said the festival would virtually bring a strong bond of relationship between India and Myanmar which has close affinity in terms of culture, tradition and religion. “This sort of festivals facilitate both the country to exchange their rich cultures, trade and uphold bonhomie to sustain the age-old relationship,” the Ambassador hoped. 
While highlighting the history of Stillwell or Ledo road and the essence of Pangsau Pass festival, DCM Chowna Mein as Guest of Honour said the myriad culture and enigma of enchanting Arunachal as displayed through this festival would bring light to South East Asia and world. “We have tremendous tourism potential. Historic Stilwell Road, World War-II Cemetery, Border Bazaar, Lake of No Return & Hell Gate etc are the embodiments of this area and the Act East Policy is in the offing to promote trade and culture in the region. The road in our part has already been developed but the dilapidated stretch on the Myanmar side is causing delay and hope the Ambassador would take up the matter at the earlier with his government,” DCM wished.
Minister Trade and Commerce Tumke Bagra also suggested teaching languages of one another at the border to ease business. “Our rich handloom and handicraft are also in need to get training inputs to boost the textile industry and this easy and short international route to South East Asia have to be made in best use to increase trade and business of both countries”, Bagra advocated. Nampong MLA Laisum Simai said PPIF is not only a platform to unravel the enchanting world of the tribal people but also an occasion to rejoice ethnic life and simplicity and geographically it is the gateway to the paradise named Arunachal Pradesh from South East Asia.
Later the Chief Guest unveiled ‘Your Mirror’ and ‘Operational guidelines for Rural Tourism and Home stay’ amid the presence of MLAs of Bordumsa Somlung Mosang, Likang Jummum Ete Deari, Namsai Zingnu Namshoom, Kanubari Gabriel D Wangsu, Changlang (South) Phosum Khimum, Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte, dignitaries from Myanmar, Secretary Tourism Vandana Deori, DC RK Sharma, Army and 13th Assam Rifles officials. A mesmerizing cultural show was also showcased by both Arunachal and Myanmar counterparts, making the event remarkable.
