ITANAGAR, Dec 13:  More than a thousand students from Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) Rono Hills and North East Regional Institute of Science and Technology under the banner of Rajiv Gandhi University Students Union (RGUSU) and Students Union of NERIST (SUN) today organized foot march from their respective institutions to Raj Bhawan covering about 37 kms to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
Holding placards and banners, students shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, MP (West) Kiren Rijiju, MP (East)  Tapir Gao, Chief Ministers of Arunachal and Assam.
Addressing the gathering, General Secretary RGUSU, Dopum Sonam said ‘Northeast cannot be made a dumping zone. CAB will never be accepted in Arunachal and in whole Northeast. If they want CAB, it should be implemented in Gujarat and other states of the country but not in the Northeast,' he added.
This is a historic protest where students have covered more than 37 Kilometers on foot to protest against the draconian Bill, said President RGUSU. He also informed that if the central government won’t take any appropriate measures to revoke CAB from entire North East we will continue such protest.
Coordinator, North East Students Organization (NESO) Pritam Waii Sonam while reiterating the demand to revoke the CAB stated ‘since day one we are opposing CAB and our demands will be same "No to CAB in Northeast".'  ‘If Assam is burning due to refugee issues than Arunachal will also burn,' said Sonam while questioning the central government on the settlement of Chakma –Hajong refugees under CAB.

‘At least three people have been killed in firing, Army has been deployed, internet services have been closed down this is not a democracy but a dictatorship to suppressed democracy,' said students from NERIST.  The CAB is not bill for the welfare of northeast but a ‘Bill to Kill’ the indigenous people of the Northeast they lamented.

Students organization also submitted a memorandum to Governor, stressing that the amended Act would not be implemented in the state as well as in Northeast.
Meanwhile, CAB has been also opposed by the Asia Pacific Youths Organization. In its press statement issued by its Secretary (AP)  Aling Pinggam stated ‘ it would create communal tensions and polarize India. The bill is opposed by the people of Northeast India because it violates the 1985 Assam Accord and is a threat to their culture.'
