PASIGHAT, Nov 24: A Bilateral Saggital Split Osteotomy (BSSO) was performed successfully in a case of ‘Mandibular Prognathism’ by Dr. Kayon Ratan, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon in Assa Nursing Home (ANH), Pasighat on November 21 last. Such extensive Aesthetic surgeries are performed in very few selected institution all over India. 
ANH Medical Superintendent Dr. N. Ninu in an official statement asserted that BSSO is a required surgical technique for correcting mandibular deformities. This specific orthodontic surgical procedure was performed for the first time in Arunachal Pradesh. She also informed that the first patient of the state underwent BSSO was a 31-year- old male from Pasighat and got relief through this surgery. 
Orthognathic Surgeries are done for Cosmetic and Functional repositioning of upper and lower Jaw Bones (Maxilla and Mandible), sometimes including other facial bones too. Reduction or Augmentation of the said bones can be done to improve function and Aesthetic profile. 
It is pertinent to note that earlier too Dr. Keyon Ratan had performed the first Maxillofacial Trauma Surgery and first Jaw Reconstructive Surgery in Arunachal Pradesh which was widely published in prominent dailies way back in 2013.
