ITANAGAR, Oct 5: Alleging corruption on the part of a police officer at Aalo Police Station, the International Human Rights Organization (IHRO), Arunachal Unit has lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police, West Siang seeking his intervention and legal action against the erring officer.
IHRO in its complaint letter alleged that the concerned officer at Aalo PS has unethically charged a sum of Rs 20,000 from the accused in connection with Aalo PS case no 66/20 U/s 341/323/506 IPC. The letter has specifically stated that the officer demanded the said amount from the accused for bail formalities, reminding along with that failure in this regard will land him behind bars. “On October 4, the said officer asked the accused to pay the amount and out of fear and compulsion he handed over the amount,” the complaint letter claimed.
When contacted, SP West Siang Jummar Basar informed that his office has received the complaint letter and accordingly the officer has been placed under suspension so that an unbiased departmental enquiry can be conducted.
“If the officer is found guilty, he shall be punished as per provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Police (Discipline and Appeal Rules) 1999,” SP said.
