ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Arunachal Jankalyan Sangathan (AJKS) has alleged that the present Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) is involved in multi-crore corruption under 14th and 15th Finance Commission and other centrally sponsored schemes funds.
Addressing the media at the press club here today, AJKS- IMC issue coordinator Biri Ruja claimed that the IMC is practicing the ‘offline’ mode of project tendering to manage corruption by "pick and choose" policy. Whereas, it is in the public domain that the departments have already adopted an online tender system for any kind of work.
He said the present IMC members and administrative officials through such practice have been indulging in corruption. Funds under the centrally sponsored schemes like AMRUT (Rs 89 Cr), 14th and 15th Finance Commission (Rs 117 Cr respectively), Swach Bharat Mission state plan etc have been misused, Ruja claimed.
“The offline mode of tender process is a violation of the central public works department which is not applicable, especially under centrally sponsored schemes. Moreover, the IMC and the RTI Commissioners office are adamant to respond to the information sought on various corruption charges through RTI,” he said.
The AJS today submitted a memorandum to the Governor apprising the matter in detail after the failure by the Chief Minister to address the issue.
“Therefore, we demand the state government to constitute a committee headed by a retired judge to investigate the case. If any officials or any IMC members are found guilty they should be immediately terminated and not suspended,” Ruja said.
