BORDURIA, Jul 12: Setting an example that the vision of entrepreneurship in rural Arunachal Pradesh can be translated from the zone of possibilities into action, the Patkai Buds Organic Green Tea Manufacturing Unit began its journey today and the inauguration will remain memorable since it was made by the eldest woman of Borduria, also the of grandmother of Jaawang Lowangchha, the entrepreneur.
The unit was inaugurated by 101-year old Senphiak Wangcha in presence of Chairperson, Nocte Women Association (NWA) Chasuam Wangchadong, DMO Dr. N. Lowang, CDPO N. Matey, IPR representative Gawang Sumpa, Jaawang’s parents Wangman Lowangcha and Wiphiak Lowangchha and the staff of PBTMU. While stating that the call for ‘vocal for local’ has been his inspiration, the young entrepreneur informed that tea growing in Borduria has been inspired by his forefathers including his father who is known as one of the tea pioneers in Tirap district. A tea manufacturing unit in a place like Borduria was needed to break the nexus of middlemen for getting better rates and increasing employment opportunities in the district that would lead to greater economic prosperity and per capita income, Jaawang said, adding that the unit has employed 6 locals and a tea maker from Assam.
The unit will also act as a catalyst for the tea sector in Tirap, directly benefiting the small tea growers and an encouragement for the district’s farming community as a whole to relinquish traditional shifting cultivation methods, he added. DIPRO
