ITANAGAR, Mar 4: The Nefa Indigenous Human Rights Organization (NIHRO) on Monday condemned police atrocities on peaceful protesters during the anti PRC movement here in Itanagar which claimed thelives of three youths and inflicted massive damages to public and government properties.
Addressing a press conference at Arunachal Press Club here, NIHRO president, Domin Loya criticized the state government for failing to contain the situation which later took an ugly turn resulting in loss of lives and a complete breakdown of law and order.
The recent situation in the Capital Complex had created a complete breakdown of civil administration that seriously affected the civil liberties including total shutdown of basic services for one week in the Capital Region, he stated while blaming the state government for the chaos.
“Those fatal bullets could have been avoided by using water cannons and other means of controlling the agitators,” said Loya, adding that the state has witnessed miscarriage of public interest and unruly governance under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
Stating that PRC is not a personal property of any individual to give away as New Year Gift, Loya said that people of Arunachal have been fighting against refugees for long and people at the helm of affairs should have felt the sentiment of the indigenous people before taking such a drastic decision.
“Granting of PRC to Non-APST in a 100% tribal dominated state is out of the question. The CM is an educated person and should have thought about the impact of PRC on indigenous people if it is given,” asserted Loya.
While demanding that the PRC issue should be given in written thereby including it into the gazette notification, the Organization also asked the government to appropriately compensate all victims.
Opposing state government’s Commissioner level probe into the incident, the Organization demanded a judicial probe into the whole episode by a High Court Judge.
