ITANAGAR, Dec 9: “Few political parties are purposefully instigating and misleading farmers to go against the farm laws,” Agriculture Minister Tage Taki made the comment today while addressing the media here at the BJP party office.
While stating that Tuesday’s Bharat bandh was solely intended to create issues against the BJP by the opposition political parties, Taki hailed the farm laws as “revolutionary”.
“The new farm laws are for the welfare of Indian farmers and it’s really sad that few political parties are creating trouble and misleading them to raise voice,” he said, claiming that most of the agitators are not famers, but sponsored people who came with SUVs. Justifying the laws as tools of welfare for farmers, the Agriculture Minister said with abolition of the middle-man raj in Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs), the farmers can now sell their produce wherever they want.
When asked about the written assurance on MSP issue, Taki asserted there is no intention to repeal it and the Central government is committed to its continuance for the benefits of farmers. While condemning the bandh, he said the laws will have a positive impact on the farmers of the entire Northeast and Arunachal Pradesh in particular. “The bill is for the betterment, security and benefit of the country’s farmers. They can now initiate structural trade agreements for sale and purchase of farm produce under the  Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020,” he said, adding that the law will give way to contract farming. “Blessed with fertile soil, Arunachal has the potential to lead the country in farm sector. Therefore, introduction of the ‘contract farming’ clause will not only generate income and security for the state’s farmers but also provide them protection against price exploitation,” the Agriculture Minister said. “We have sufficient land in state which are not used due to financial constraints by the local farmers and agripreneurs. By contract farming, the farmers can now use their land for generating income,” he added.

Meanwhile, taking on the sidelines, Taki said the state is capable enough for construction of cold storages which will be built at appropriate time when there are surplus agriculture and horticulture produce. “As of now we have two cold storages in the state,” he said, assuring that the state government is committed to the welfare of the state’s farmers.
