ITANAGAR, Mar 6: All opposition parties including Congress, National People’s Party (NPP), People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and Janata Dal –Secular (JD-S) called on the Governor of the state and submitted memorandum demanding resignation of chief minister Pema Khandu for his failure to control the volatile situation in the recent PRC protest in the state capital.
Addressing the media, former Chief Minister, Gegong Apang who recently joined JD-S and led the delegation, claimed that after threadbare discussion in all-party meeting on recent PRC episode they decided to meet the Governor and submit a memorandum. Apang said that in his long political career even as chief minister, he had never witnessed such mayhem in the state and said that the only solution to bring back peace in Arunachal Pradesh is for Pema Khandu to step down.
Apang sought judicial inquiry headed by a sitting Supreme Court judge or retired judge to unearth the truth and also termination of security forces involved in the firing incident. “We cannot compensate the life of a person with money or job, the government must declare the deceased as martyred,” he added.
The response of the Governor is positive and our single point demand is that chief minister should resign within next three days failing which all political parties will observe sit-in dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan. While quoting the home minister’s statement on firing incident, Sanjoy said that Governor has also clarified that Indian army has not used any bullets during the protest and also questioned the chief minister over the whole episode.
Supporting the demand, PPA President Khafa Bengia said “during last political tussle in Nabam Tuki regime the then Governor invoked president’s rule just because a mithun had been killed in front of the Raj Bhawan, then why is the Centre silent when three innocent lives were lost in the recent PRC episode.”
NPP MLA and former home minister Tanga Byaling said “there is no political gimmick and I will not blame anyone, but who runs the government should take the responsibility.” Byaling also disclosed that he has already asked the CM to step down from the post morally on February 23 last to check further violence in the state.
