ITANAGAR, Aug 17: A 5-day Online Training Programme for 290 teachers of secondary schools in the districts of Changlang and Lohit kicked off on Monday to impart skills on using technology and internet which have now become essential in teaching-learning process due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
The programme which is an initiative of the Deputy Commissioners of the two districts is a part of IBM's flagship CSR initiative- STEM For Girls Programme with Quest Alliance, a not-for-profit organization in the areas of education and employability skills and Amyaa NGO the implementing partners in Arunachal Pradesh. It was inaugurated by Secretary (Education), GoAP Niharika Rai. DC Changlang Devansh Yadav, DC Lohit Prince Dhawan, Head CSR, IBM India & South Asia Manoj Balachandran, CEO, Quest Alliance Aakash Sethi,  Associate Director, Quest Alliance Neha Parti and Secretary, Amyaa NGO Chawang Paul attended the inauguration ceremony.
The training which has a duration of 10 hours spread over 5 days will help the participating teachers enrich and upgrade their skills in using platforms like Gmail, WhatsApp, Facebook Live, Telegram, YouTube, Google Classroom, Jamboard, Google Meet, Google Slides, Sheets and Doc to effectively conduct classes and engage their students online. They will also be introduced to technologies like audio conferencing and IVRS and about online safety protocols and at the end of training will be given access to learning resources related to the topics on self, gender, life skills, career skills, computational thinking and coding.
The Education Secretary while stressing on the need for teachers to keep abreast of the latest technological tools in online teaching-learning process, appreciated the DCs of Lohit and Changlang for the initiative. “On the last day, we will plan together with the teachers the next steps and start virtual classes in both districts ensuring no student is left behind,” DC Changlang said. DC Lohit requested the teachers to find out the platforms most suited for them to connect with students and thanked Amyaa, Quest Alliance and IBM for the collaboration.
