ITANAGAR, Sep 13: A two-day online 'Legal Awareness-cum-Training Programme' for the state’s para legal volunteers (PLVs) was held here on September 12-13. The training was organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) in collaboration with Department of Justice, Union Ministry of Law & Justice.
More than 50 PLVs from different parts of the state logged on to participate in the virtual event wherein speakers included Member Secretary, APSLSA Jaweplu Chai, Addl. Sessions Judge (SFTC), Dwarka Court, Delhi Geetanjali Goel, Deputy Secretary, Law and Judicial Department-cum-OSD, APSLSA Dani Belo, Advocate Jungam Jini, Project Consultant, APSLSA Advocate Mari Riba and others. Topics that were elaborated by the speakers on the first day included concept of Legal Services Authority and role and functioning of Legal Aid Clinics, Lok Adalats. Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, Marriage Registration, POCSO Act, importance of communication skills for PLVs and their role in settlement of disputes and facilitation of access to justice etc.
On the second day, Geetanjali Goel covered an array of important topics including Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, IPC and CRPC, rights of arrestee, Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and Maintenance and Welfare of Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act, 2007. She also answered questions from the participants at the end of each session.
