PASIGHAT, Jul 12: One Undertrial prisoner identified as Kalen Apang was arrested from Mirbuk around 11.30 PM on Monday night, East Siang police informed. The remaining six UTPs who managed to escape from Judicial Jail, Pasighat on Sunday are still untraceable although the hunt is on along the Assam-Arunachal boundary by the police along with locals like Gaon Burahs, village youths, Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing members etc.
When contacted, DSP East Siang Tapang Tatak informed on Monday evening that search operation is still on in all the areas including villages along the Assam-Arunachal boundary. While filing this report, Tatak, who was at Magnang village with his police forces near Ruksin area informed that the GBs and locals have been alerted. “Right now we are convening a meeting with the village heads of Magnang and others for their help in re-arresting the escaped UTPs who are likely to cross the Assam-Arunachal border via forest and agricultural lands as all roads are already being checked and night curfew from 3 pm to 5 am imposed due to Covid. The Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing members are also helping the police in the search operation,” the DSP informed.
Meanwhile, Adi Baane Kebang East Siang district unit has issued an alert notice to all the villages in and around the Assam-Arunachal border forest area and agricultural land as the escaped UTPs are likely to flee via jungle roads. The villagers have also been asked to keep their firearms and other weapons in safe custody as the escaped UTPs might sneak into their houses and take possession of the arms for self-defence.
