KIMIN, Feb 9: Acting swiftly in the firing incident that took place at a restaurant in Kimin on Monday night, police this afternoon arrested a man in this connection based on CCTV footage.

Speaking to reporters, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)-Papumpare (Rural), Dekio Gumja informed that three rounds of bullets were fired around 7.30 pm on Monday night at a restaurant by a masked man that injured two persons. Health condition of the victims are stable as they are undergoing operation at Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences. A case has been also registered under Case No. 03/21 U/S 307, Section 27 of Arms Act, the SDPO said.

Earlier in the day, the Assam Tea Tribe Students Union and Assam Adivasi Students Union along with the victim's families blocked the Pohumara-Kimin road, protesting against the incident. However, the road blockade was cleared following a meeting with the unions representatives.

“Prima facie shows that there is no communal, inter-state issue which led to the incident; it could be due to personal reasons,” the officer added.

Meanwhile, the Assam Tea Tribe Students Union and Assam Adivasi Students Union have requested the Arunachal Pradesh government to ensure the safety of workers from Assam in the state.It also demanded early arrest of the accused and to provide 5 lakhs compensation for the victim's family.
