Itanagar, Feb 8: The 20th Association of Oncologists of North East India Conference 2025 (AONEICON) commenced on Friday at the Waii International Hotel, gathering over 150 eminent oncologists from across the country—with a significant representation from the North Eastern States—to deliberate on various aspects of cancer care, research, and management.
The Pre-Conference Workshop was held yesterday during which a series of specialized pre-conference workshops were conducted simultaneously at Heema Hospital and Waii International Hotel. Participants got a chance to get engaged in a comprehensive ERCP workshop as well as hands-on training on intra-operative ultrasound and Pain and Palliative Care including Ultrasound guided nerve block, setting a robust educational tone for the days ahead.
The conference was formally inaugurated today by  Biyuram Wahge, Minister, Health and Family Welfare. In his inaugural address, the Minister expressed gratitude to the organisers for hosting such an impactful event in Arunachal Pradesh. Emphasising the critical importance of cancer awareness, early detection, and effective management, he also extended an invitation to conduct the conference again next year.
Dr. Sam Tsering, SNO, CCP and Organising Chairman, welcomed the Chief Guest and all delegates with warmth and enthusiasm. The program continued with Dr. Abhijeet Talukdar, General Secretary of AONEI, presenting an insightful performance report, followed by an inspiring presidential address by Dr. Jadunath Buragohain, President of AONEI. The inaugural session concluded on a positive note with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Leena Ligu, Organising Secretary.
The 3-day long conference will continue to feature a series of sessions, discussions, and expert interactions focused on advancements in oncology. The conference is scheduled to conclude on February 9.
With the active participation of specialists and stakeholders in the field, AONEICON 2025 promises to contribute significantly to the evolution of cancer treatment and research, particularly in the North East Region.
