KANUBARI, May 8: Suspected cadres of the K-YA faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) have kidnapped a Gaon Burah (village headman) of Lauksim village of Kanubari Subdivision in Longding District on the evening of May 7 last.
The victim has been identified as Napho Boham of Lauksim village.
As per reports, the abduction took place on the intervening night of May 7th last around 10:30 pm when a group of five NSCN- K-YA factions led by Self Style Corporal Wanglem Wangsu abducted the GB and took him towards Nagaland, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police, Longding.
As per sources, the militant group was asking for house taxes from the villagers amounting to Rs. 4.5 lakh and another reason could be the GB’s alleged involvement with security forces for sharing information about the militant groups as claimed by the sources, added the DySP.
As of now no FIR has been registered, as no one from the victim's family has come forward to report the incident. A team of villagers and police have also left for Nagaland to negotiate about the safe release of the GB, he added.
The development comes almost two months after NSCN (K-YA) allegedly kidnapped three workers engaged in the road construction work on the Pumao-Langkhow stretch in Longding district, and days after 120 gaon buras of Tirap and Longding districts extended their support to security forces to tackle the menace of NSCN insurgents operating across the two districts.
Longding district shares its boundary with Nagaland, Assam and Myanmar and is often used as a transit route by various militant outfits to enter Assam as well as Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
