Changlang, Sep 4: In a massive blow to the NSCN-K, a joint team of Changlang district police, 171 Bn CRPF and 14 Rajput Regiment busted an extortion racket carried out by the ultras of the underground organisation in Mpen area under Miao Circle of the district on September 3 last.
Based on inputs received from sources regarding the presence of an armed NSCN-K cadre in the said area, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched. The team was led by 21C 171 Bn CRPF Kunwar Singh, SDPO Miao Tasi Darang and a Captain of the 14th Rajput Regiment. During CASO, one individual identified as SS Pvt Wangmon Khimhun (22) was apprehended and one Chinese-made Assault Rifle, one Magazine and 29 live ammunition and other incriminating documents were recovered from his possession. 
On-the-spot interrogation revealed that he joined ENNG in January 2020 and then left it in August last. He further confessed that he along with his accomplice had carried out extortion activities at Mpen area in the name of NSCN-K. 
Based on further inputs that were corroborated by the apprehended cadre, a separate  intensive search operation was carried out by another group of the joint team led by SI J Aran of Miao PS and Inspector Raile Paul of 171 Bn CRPF on September 4 in a suspected hideout. During the search, another huge cache of AK-47 ammunition and as many as 101 live rounds, 4 magazines, one pouch and one holster were recovered. In relation to this recovery, a case has been registered at Miao PS under relevant sections of the IPC, Arms Act and UAPA. The joint operation was planned and launched under supervision of SP Changlang Mihin Gambo in coordination with CO 171 Bn CRPF and 14th Rajput Regiment under the guidance of PHQ and DIGP (TCL). 

In another incident, on September 2, 19 Assam Rifles apprehended one SS Sergeant Bhaity Asom (30), an active ULFA (I) cadre from the vicinity of BP 172 under Nampong Circle and recovered one 9 mm pistol from the jungle suspected to be hidden by the ultras.
