KHONSA, May 28: District and Sessions Court, Khonsa today convicted a NSCN-K cadre for wrongful restraint of an on-duty police officer.
The convict named Phamwang Lowang committed the offence on February 18, 2014 when he detained Inspector Wangdaw Wangsu of Khonsa Police Station in Kapu village while the latter was proceeding towards Longding on his personal vehicle with one Ratnesh Kumar. Armed with an assault rifle, the NSCN-K cadre stopped the vehicle and asked the inspector to turn it back to drop him at Borduria village. Ratnesh Kumar was dropped from the vehicle, but after observing an approaching CRPF vehicle, Lowang alighted from the car and disappeared into the jungle. Two days later he was finally apprehended by the Assam Rifles from Borduria village along with a MQ 5 rifle and ammunition.
The said NSCN-K cadre was already convicted in the said case u/s 25 (1A) of the Arms Act and sentenced to a rigorous imprisonment for 10 years along with a fine. DIPRO
