KHONSA, Oct 28:  An NSCN (IM) cadre was apprehended on Wednesday in a joint operation by 6 Assam Rifles and Tirap Police.
The arrested hardcore insurgent has been identified as Self Styled Sergeant Dowang Wangsa of NSCN (IM) who is a close associate of Self Styled Colonel Apem Tangkhul, operational commander of NSCN (IM) of Tirap District and Self Styled Major Victor Tangkhul of NSCN (IM)who are in the wanted list of the National Investigation Agency.
The arrested cadre was involved in planning an ambush on security forces in Sanliam village on 21 October 2020 and disclosed the NSCN (IM) involvement in the planned IED attack on the Assam Rifles. Interestingly, NSCN (IM) vide a press statement on 22 October 2020 denied its involvement in the ambush on security forces in Sanliam village whereas the apprehendee has given all details including the overall plan and individuals involved in the sabotage activity, stated the press statement by the Assam Rifles.
Based on specific input regarding the presence of the cadre, a special operation was launched by 6thAssam Rifles along with Tirap Police on October 27. A pistol and live ammunition were also recovered from the insurgent. The apprehended insurgent, along with recoveries has been handed over to Khonsa Police station for further interrogation.
