NAMPONG, May 11: In a major breakthrough, Self Style (SS) Sergeant Anong Singpho alias Nongpion (29), NSCN-IM cadre, resident of Inthem village, Tinsukia (Assam) has been apprehended in a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police in a special operation launched at Therimkan village in Nampong circle on May 9 last.
Security agencies recovered 9mm pistol, ammunition, Chinese made hand grenade, cloth smeared with raw opium, some cash and other incriminating documents from the cadre.
Based on input regarding the movement of the wanted cadre between the general area of Khamlang to Therimkhan, a special operation was tactfully launched by the 19 Assam Rifles along with Nampong Police.
As per sources, SS Sgt Anong Singpho was taking refuge in one of the houses of Therimkhan village, 3 km from Nampong. During the conduct of operations, a cordon was laid at suspected houses and after a thorough search at suspected houses, Anong was spotted in a highly intoxicated state.
