ITANAGAR, May 6: The NPP Workers Redressal Forum of 27-Liromoba assembly constituency today strongly condemned the West Siang police for misusing its powers by conducting raids at the residences of a few NPP supporters without valid search warrants on May 1 and 2.
In a representation addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Aalo the forum called for launching a probe to investigate the role of policemen involved in the raids and urged the DC to direct the police to make public the names of suspected offenders within seven days time.
Stating that resentment is building since only NPP supporters belonging to Gamlin and Gamkak clan have been targeted, it also criticized the police for randomly searching rooms wherein female members of the house were sleeping, that too without any woman police personnel accompanying them.
According to police, the raids have been conducted following an FIR lodged by Mandal President, BJP of 27 Liromoba AC, Bajum Bogo on March 25 wherein he alleged that a mob of unknown miscreants entered his hotel room at Aalo and looted 60 lakhs in cash including his personal belongings. The police arrested three persons within three days with the help of information received from the eyewitnesses and footages of CCTV camera seized from the hotel premises. The interrogation of the arrested persons revealed the involvement of more persons in the dacoity, police had informed.
The NPP Workers Redressal Forum, however, raised doubts over the authenticity of the FIR itself citing that the complainant is the BJP’s Mandal President and police is harassing only the supporters of the NPP.
The forum also questioned why no inquiry or action was taken against the violator, Bajum Bogo who violated the model code of conduct (MCC) by keeping such a huge amount of money. It alleged that such action of the police indicates biased attitude of the administration and political involvement in the matter.
“Such illegal act of creating terror should be stopped immediately. If they have proper identification of the offenders, then the list should be disclosed or handed over to the members of village authorities such as HGB, GB of the respective village for action or any arrest warrant or lookout notice should have been issued first,” it appealed.
Earlier, the Intellectual Support Group had also alleged police high-handedness while conducting midnight raids in two villages—Tego Gamlin and Laggi Gamlin under Liromoba constituency.
