ITANAGAR, May 6: National People’s Party Contesting Candidates Forum (NPPCCF) of Arunachal Pradesh has submitted a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer of the state seeking re-poll again in 24-Taba and 28-Nampe polling stations under 21- Koloriang Assembly Constituency.
Speaking today to reporters, NPPCCF Convenor and former Home Minister Kumar Waii stated that the forum is not against anyone, but the culture of booth capturing, violence and money power should be curtailed for peaceful election process. “There is enough evidence including video and audio clips and documents proving how people were threatened and roads and bridges cut-off to disrupt the election process,” he said.
“It is unfortunate that the savage treatment meted out to voters has not only cast a blot on the electioneering process but it has also cheated people of their fundamental right,” he said. Commenting on the presence of sophisticated weapons, the former Home Minister said that the state which once received award for being one of the peaceful states witnessed total chaos during the elections.
“It is surprising that besides unaccounted cash, sophisticated weapons are also being used in this election which is a first in the history of Arunachal Pradesh. We have never witnessed such a law and order situation during the elections; moreover it is the duty of the BJP led caretaker state government to clarify to the public on the presence of such sophisticated weapons and unaccounted cash,” added Waii.
The former Home Minister also stated that weapon and money culture must be put to an end now, else it will be a precedence.
“Onus falls on the state government to come forward and appeal people to maintain peace and harmony. But till date the caretaker BJP government is silent on the issue.”
Speaking about NPPCCF’s representation to the CEO, Waii said that they have appealed for immediate appointment of Observer in Koloriang and announcement of re-polling under strict vigilance of adequate paramilitary forces with proper sensitization of public ahead of the poll day.
