ITANAGAR, Jan 11: The National People’s Party today said that it will not compromise on seat sharing and will contest the coming elections on its own.
‘The NPP will  blow the trumpet on its own in all the 24 Lok Sabha seats in Northeast and the 60-member State Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh in the ensuing elections,’ said Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya who is also the National President of NPP here today. Sangma is in Itanagar to attend the State NPP executive meeting.
While interacting with reporters here, Sangma added that though NPP is part of NEDA and has a coalition government in Meghalaya but since its inception NPP has fought elections on its own. “We will not compromise on seat sharing. NPP will fight in all the seats,” he asserted.
Further responding to query on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, Sangma said Meghalaya Cabinet has already taken resolution not to adopt the said Bill that has been passed in Lok Sabha and presented in Rajya Sabha in the recently concluded winter session of Parliament.  “I have also spoken to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh regarding the Bill  and expressed  the sentiments of the people of my state. All the state governments of Northeast feels the same on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2018.”
“Bill is still pending in Rajya Sabha, so we cannot take instant decision on whether we will continue ties with NEDA or not. But our Cabinet has already expressed its stand on the issue,” the Meghalaya CM asserted.
While briefing on its agenda for party executive meeting, Conrad opined that NPP’s top priority is to uplift the education sector as it is the root of development.  “As per information there are issues of SSA teachers in the state and definitely NPP will give preference to resolve their issues. Besides Health and Social development, Infrastructure including road and Information Technology would be our prime agenda during the state executive meeting,” he added.
