ITANAGAR, Mar 17: Amid reports of racial discrimination being faced by the people of the Northeast currently located in various regions of the country in relation to the coronavirus outbreak, Member of Lok Sabha, Arunachal East Tapir Gao today raised the issue in the ongoing session of the parliament.
Gao urged the house to issue advisories to all the universities, colleges and schools in every state to refrain from using the word like “coronavirus” to tease the people of the Northeast. “It has been reported that people from the Northeast are being taunted as ‘coronavirus’ for having similarities in physiognomy with the people of China, the epicentre of the outbreak,” Gao remarked, informing the house that many students had even been forced out of their respective hostels and rented apartments.
The MP further alleged that some evil minds are out to disunite the Northeast from rest of the India through coining of such jibes.
