PASIGHAT, Jul 11: Torrential rain over the last four days has adversely affected normal life in East Siang district as roads remained blocked due to falling of trees along with snapping of water supply and electricity coupled with landslides occurring on mountain sides and flood in all the rivers of the district.
Keeping in mind the possibility of flash floods and other natural calamities associated with it, East Siang District Administration had already issued a warning to all the citizens of the district, especially the people settling in and around Siang river near PI Line, Jarku, Jarkong, 2 Mile, Berung, Jampani and low lying/ downstream villages under Mebo Sub-Division. It has also asked all its linked and concerned departments to remain alert to tackle any untoward incident.
Talking about the possibilities of flash flood in Siang river, Additional Dy. Commissioner, (HQ), Pasighat, Tatdo Borang said that river level has not crossed the danger mark as of now. “However, we have already alerted our officers and departments concerned and selected some evacuation sites in case of any emergency situation. At the same time, we are requesting the general public not to collect any driftwood from Siang river banks which works as a natural protection of erosion at times. We have seen people defying orders, but we appeal our conscious citizens to discourage such practice,” added Borang. People have also been asked not to go out for fishing in Siang river and venture along its banks.
All other rivers and rivulets are also in full surge due to incessant rain. Water supply pipeline near Silluk village under Mebo Sub-Division passing through Sukan Nolah, a seasonal river was also damaged today which could affect water supply to the village and others nearby. The known troubling rivers like Siku, Sisar, Taratamak,Tolon Korong/Pagla Nadi are all in surge and are likely to cause further damages if rain continues for more days.
Meanwhile, one auto driver was grievously injured while three auto-rickshaws were completely damaged today morning at around 8.45 am at Mirmir Tinali near All India Radio Station, Pasighat when a big tree came tumbling over the auto stand due to excessive rain. The injured Bajong Pertin was immediately rushed to Bakin Pertin General Hospital and was later declared out of danger after preliminary treatment.
