Kanubari, 4 Aug: Although the state government claims to focus more on the development of education sector so often, proper classrooms with the adequate facilities is still a distant dream for the students of Government Middle School, Mopakhat, Kanubari.
The school is situated about 260 km away from the state capital and three kilometers away from Kanubari in Longding District. The students who secure admission in this school are compelled to study at this old school building which has no proper amenities and infrastructure. As per ground report, the said school doesn’t have proper desk & benches for the students and no toilet facilities even for girls. What adds more to their apathy is the seeping of rain water from the school roof, during which students have to run to save themselves and their study materials.
“When the state government is modernizing schools by equipping them with Smart Classes, interestingly this school doesn’t even have doors and windows in their classrooms,” lamented the President of Wancho Students Union, Pongngoi Joham.
He appealed the administration and concerned department to extend all possible help immediately to the school.
“Officials from the Education Department like the Secretary Education visited the school and even acknowledged the problems besides assuring the required help, but years have passed without any real support till date,” added the Headmaster Incharge P Wansga. Sometimes we have to make alternative arrangements to shift the students due to leaking roof and there is no place even to put nails in the desk and benches due to repeated repairing, he said, adding that students are also forced to sit on the floor due to inadequate desks & benches.
I hope the concerned authority will extend help to the school and bring back smiles on the faces of the students within a stipulated time, said the Headmaster.
