ITANAGAR, Oct 21: Union Minister of Education Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal will inaugurate the newly constructed Mechanical Engineering, Bio-Technology and Chemical Engineering blocks and the upgraded central instrumentation facility and reaction engineering laboratory of NIT Arunachal Pradesh on October 26 through virtual mode.
This was informed by the NIT’s Director Professor P. Mahanta through a press release today. Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Union MoS (I/C), Youth Affairs & Sports and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Union MoS Education Sanjay Dhotre and State Education Minister Er. The construction of the above blocks has been completed at a cost of Rs 17.405 crore, each having a build-up area of 7143 sq mtrs. Each block has seven classrooms with a capacity to accommodate 360 students, 9 laboratories including virtual classrooms, 1 meeting room and 27 faculty cabins. Central instrumentation facility and reaction engineering laboratory have been upgraded with state of the art facilities for research and consultancy at costs of 0.35 crore and 0.05 crore respectively through TEQIP-III funding from the World Bank.
It is worth mentioning that academic and research activities of the NIT have improved during last few years resulting in achievements like attaining the 200th rank in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020 in Engineering Category and  Band A (a rank between 11th-25th) in ARIIA Rankings 2020 among the institutes of national importance, central universities and CFTIs. Publication of a good number of publications and getting of patent rights by faculty members reflect qualitative improvement of academic and research ventures of the institute in the fields of engineering, basic sciences and humanities.
Although the construction of the permanent campus at Jote was halted for the last few years, with commencement of works by all executing agencies after sanctioning of revised cost estimate by the Union Ministry, it is now expected that shifting to the permanent campus will commence after March 2021.
