ITANAGAR, Jun 12 : In the wake of certain hoax messages currently circulating in social media about the detection of Nipah virus in Pasighat and Roing and infection of a doctor named T Talo due to it, FIRs have been lodged by the state’s health authorities.
When contacted, about the messages, Joint Director of Training and Research Dr. D Raina categorically refuted such claims and termed it as a hoax. “Till today no such cases have been reported at Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pasighat and we do know who Dr. T Talo is as claimed by rumour mongers. Moreover, we have lodged an FIR and appealed the administration to take note of such rumours and initiate necessary action for creating panic amongst the denizens,” Raina said.
Meanwhile, in a similar case District Medical Officer, Lower Dibang Valley Dr. R Tatan also lodged an FIR against rumour mongers for circulating such hoax messages in social media. In its FIR, Dr Tatan stated that the messages circulating in social media giving the number of people infected with this virus and their admission at District Hospital Roing has caused panic amongst the public of the district and is totally false.
Meanwhile, elaborating about the virus, Dr. D Raina stated that the virus was first detected in 1998 and is spread through urine, faeces or saliva of bat contaminated with animals like pig, dog, sheep and fruit like litchi. Symptoms are fever, headache, mental confusion, disorientation, leading to coma and even death.
There is no specific treatment like other viral diseases and as it is highly contagious, prevention is the best option, informed Dr Raina.
