ITANAGAR, Jul 12: Chief Minister Pema Khandu and NHPC officials discussed the hydro power developer’s future prospects in Arunachal Pradesh and the road ahead for Dibang Multipurpose Project, Subansiri and Tawang Basin Projects during a meeting held on Tuesday.

Sunil Gupta, HOP Tawang Basin Projects and Ronel Kumar, ED, LO-Itanagar explained the recent initiative of setting up a “Real Time Seismic Data Centre” at Faridabad for close monitoring and collection of valuable acceleration data of seismic events in the vicinity of NHPC’s 22 Power Stations spread across the length and breadth of the country. The duo further asserted that NHPC structures are absolutely safe and capable of withstanding any seismic activity.

The NHPC officers also shared the present status of the Subansiri Lower Project (2000 MW) wherein after 53 hearings the judgement has been reserved by NGT, Kolkata. It was also apprised that All Assam Student’s Union (AASU) has filed a fresh case for review of Public Hearing in the light of the changed parameters of the Project subsequent to the acceptance of the technical recommendations of various committees.

The progress of Dibang Multipurpose Project was also intimated which is on “Fast Forward Mode” for Tecno-Economic Clearance (TEC).

Khandu asked the hydro power developer to step up its public relation activities and make sincere efforts to reach out to the stakeholders of Tawang Basin.
