NAHARLAGUN, Feb 5: A one day state level media sensitization workshop on COVID vaccine was conducted today here at the State Training Hall of National Health Mission (NHM).
Appreciating the media persons for their cooperation in the fight against the virus, Mission Director, NHM C.R. Khampa urged them to continue dissemination of factual and timely information regarding COVID vaccine and create awareness among people in dispelling the myths and misconceptions associated with it. While urging the media persons to double check the authenticity of information about the vaccine with health officials before disseminating them to the people, he sought cooperation and support of the media fraternity in encouraging people to receive the vaccine without fear and hesitancy. Additional Director Health & Joint Director (FW) Dr. S. Bhattacharjee while informing that the vaccine is safe and effective said there are certain challenges that need to be countered well in time. People usually refuse vaccination out of fear and misconception which needs to be addressed by the media fraternity, he stressed. Medical Officer, Routine Immunization Dr. Tage Taka gave a detailed presentation on COVID-19 vaccination and building vaccine confidence with media support.
Consultant, UND Dr. Deepak Mili spoke on CoWIN online application platform where details of all eligible beneficiaries are registered prior to vaccination. Consultant, UNICEF Bijay Dungdung spoke on media engagement in COVID vaccination. IEC Deputy Director Ongtang Thamphang also urged the participating media persons to extend full support in delivering correct information about the vaccine.
Responding to queries from the media persons, Nodal officer (NHM) & SIO (RI) Dr. D. Padung informed that except for persons below 18 years of age, pregnant women, lactating mother with child between 0-1 year and those having allergic reactions to a previous dose of COVID-19 vaccine, everybody else can take the vaccine without fear.
