ITANAGAR, Nov 30:  The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 Lakh per month on the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) for the lack of a solid waste management plant (SWMP) in the state capital.
The Chimpu Plant has been invalidated as it is much nearer to the National Highway. The new location at Dapo Yarlo near Chimpu is almost 3 Km away from the  National  Highway and is appropriate as per NGT norms, the urban local body today informed.
A team of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) led by  Mayor Tame Phassang inspected the under construction  Solid Waste Management Plant (SWMP) at Dapo Yarlo, Chimpu on  Wednesday.
Phassang directed the executing agency to expedite the work of the Solid Waste Management  Plant.  "The National Green Tribunal has already imposed fines on IMC for not having proper SWMP to dispose of solid waste. Since the inception of the new IMC team, our foremost motive has been to establish a proper SWMP in the outskirts of the city following the norms of the NGT and this location at Dapo Yarlo is the best place," he said.
Informing that the approach road for the SWMP is almost completed, he however said that the executing agency needs to expedite the work for submitting the reports to both NGT and State government. "Once completed, it will be a huge relief for the state capital, as we don’t have proper SWMP as of now," the Mayor said adding that his team and the concern Minister will visit the location next month to assess the work progress.
IMC also like to appeal to all the denizens to extend equal support to make the state capital clean, green, and crime-free capital, stated the Mayor.
Earlier, Commissioner IMC  Likha Tejji said "NGT has already imposed a penalty of Rs. 1 lakh per month until we established an SWMP, so we are pressing our men and machines to complete the project in the stipulated time frame."
Among others,  Corporators from various wards,  Director  ULB -Liyi Bagra, Engineers from IMC and other officials also accompanied the Mayor during the site inspection.
