ITANAGAR, Apr 29:  Nyishi Elite Society (NES) today criticised the administration for its inept and callous handling of the election process leading to large scale violence particularly in Kurung Kumey and Kra Daadi districts on polling day, April 11 which resulted in re-poll in several polling stations also leading to loss of life.
“Despite strict directive from the Chief Election Commission of India to take all necessary and adequate measures to ensure safety & security of voters, polling personnel and  materials for free, fair and transparent fresh poll the security arrangement in the re-polling stations and surrounding areas were not up to mark because of which precious life of Bengia Tamang (45), GB of Pakpu village was lost in the pre-poll violence on April 25 near Taba Polling station under Damin Administrative Circle,  Kurung Kumey District,” NES said in a press communiqué.
The administration and police must arrest the culprits involved in the killing of Late Bengia Tamang and destruction of bridges and other means of communication, it said. Further, Society also expressed its concern on the huge cache of arms and ammunition with private individuals while the model code of conduct was in force and there was order from DC to deposit all licensed arms in police custody till the electioneering process is over.
Meanwhile, NES appreciated the Bengia Welfare Society (BWS) for its mature handling of the situation and urged the Deputy Commissioner-cum DEO, Kurung Kumey District, civil society including contesting candidates to contribute meaningfully for restoring peace  in the two districts.
