Itanagar, Jul 19: A one-day national webinar titled ‘Technological Intervention for Rural Development’ was organized by the Regional Coordinating Institute (RCI) UBA, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST) (Deemed University) on July 18 wherein participants from various part of the country joined through Cisco Webex Meeting and YouTube Live.

The programme was hosted by National Coordinating Institute (NCI) UBA Indian Institute of Science and Technology Delhi. Chief Guest and AICTE Chairman, Professor Anil D. Sahasradudhe while stressing on the importance of self-reliance for villages, urged the institutes of higher learning to take active part in the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, a flagship programme of the Union HRD Ministry. Guest of Honour and National Coordinator, NCI UBA IIT Delhi Professor V.K. Vijay highlighted the activities of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and urged the faculty and students of NERIST to connect to the rural realities so that their learning and research become more relevant to the society. NERIST Director and the webinar’s patron Professor H.S. Yadav informed that the institute’s faculty and students are taking active part in the mission.

Dean (Students Affairs) and Regional Coordinator, UBA NERIST Professor Pradip Lingfa opined the webinar will create a platform for providing a meaningful thrust and a new dimension for development of need-based technology for rural development. Organizing Secretary of the webinar Dr. T. Patel emphasised on the importance of technological intervention for rural development for sustainable livelihood of rural people.

Professor S.N. Naik from the Centre for Rural Development and Technology, IIT Delhi, Dr. S. Karmakar from the Department of Design, IIT Guwahati, Professor D. Chakrabarti from IIT Guwahati and Dr. P.
