ZIRO, Mar 12: As part of its All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture (ESA), Department of Agriculture, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) today organised a day-long farm technology awareness-cum-demonstration mela in New Pitapool village in Lower Subansiri district.
A total of 200 progressive farmers from the adjoining villages participated in the programme which was also participated by UBA, NERIST Cell. The main objective of the programme was to display the improved technologies and women-friendly tools and equipment to the farmers for enhancing their income and developing linkages with educational/research institutes. 
Principal Investigator, AICRP on ESA, NERIST Centre, Professor K. N. Dewangan shared information on ergonomically improved hand tools and equipment feasible in hilly regions through audio-visual mode. NERIST, UBA Coordinator Dr T. Patel stressed on the adoption of best working posture for minimizing Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs). Department of Agricultural Engineering, NERIST gave demonstrations on improved hand tools and machinery for paddy cultivation, ladders for fruit farming, remote-controlled power tillers, safety gadgets for dao and sickle, improved backpack for load carrying etc. 
At the end of the programme leaflets were distributed among farmers to spread awareness on women-friendly tools and equipment suitable for agriculture in hilly areas. NERIST PR
